PLA: Clever Material, Smarter Products

Why Circ chose bioplastic, and how corn became our new favorite material.

At Circ, good design isn't just about looks, it's about thoughtful materials and smart manufacturing. When choosing what to build our first collection from, we searched for a material as clever as our designs. That led us straight to PLA (Polylactic Acid), a bioplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch.

Why PLA?

PLA isn’t ordinary plastic. It’s a renewable, biodegradable thermoplastic created from fermented plant starches, typically corn or sugarcane. Not only is it kinder to the planet, but it’s also a smart partner for our 3D printing process. it allows us to prototype, test, and produce with less waste and more precision.

Smart Meets Sustainable

Choosing PLA helps us align innovation with responsibility. It brings together the tech-forward ethos of 3D printing with our commitment to sustainability. PLA’s versatility allows us to create products that not only perform well but also reduce environmental impact.

Clever by Design

PLA has its quirks, like sensitivity to heat and specific composting requirements. Yet, we embrace the challenge. It’s a clever material that matches the way we think: intentional, innovative, and always curious.
